Progress Feedback

The project do not link well together. To speak about Mucha's designs during the Belles Epoque era with his posters on advertising and trying to relate it to my project that refers on events to the past 10 years does not make a lot of sense.

I was either too stubborn to notice and refuse to admit that my project doesn't make sense or I completely missed the whole point when meeting my supervisor.

My creative process was fine, its good to see how someone would think about a project and sketches, I should have shown more in the presentation but I didn't want to fill it up with small sketches everywhere in the slides.

To be involved with an artist that I enjoy studying is not a bad thing either. As I have researched a lot up on Mucha it would be a shame to bin it all, so for my next act of plan I want to use these findings and focus on another project.

It does mean I don't have a lot of time and again change my project slightly at this stage would be stupid but I am worried that I will end up with a project that relates nothing at all to my research and, not fail, but receive the lowest of the low grade.

Lynn did mention about relating my designs to consumerism as Mucha's art is mostly focused on advertising so maybe if I was to make a few posters that are ironic within the consumers ads such as fake beauty, thin and obese role models, products that can kill and looking the same with the fashion industry with no originality?

I need to step away from Mucha's designs and try and focus on my own art styles. After someone mentioning that my designs are far too similar to Mucha's, I feel like they lack originality and basically copying. So maybe interpreting my designs with Mucha's style with borders and keeping the Art Nouveau themes would be OK.

There are a lot of artists that used this idea on consumerism, so research findings would be easy. To have one positive artist with advertising (Mucha's) and a few negative artists on advertising (ironic and satirist John Holcroft) would make a good project. The only problem is the vision aim, what can the question be about for the dissertation. If there was no dissertation then the project would be fine, but of course this will never happen.

Vision aims can be: To explore the effect of consumerism advertisements within poster design to the public or Ironic and Satirical effects on advertising posters

I'm not very good at making up research titles or questions but I know what I want to find and to research to a good conclusion. So I'll worry about the title near the end of the project.

I am a bit gutted that my project on the 10 year events wouldn't go ahead but it can be something to think about more thoroughly in future after University, so the work produced will not be lost.

So for my next steps I will need to:

  • Look at the research I produced this term and last year. The research I have from last year are a good start for the project.
  • Sketches; I have produced numerous sketches from my other project but may need to start another batch. Hopefully for final outcome I will have at least 3 posters to showcase at the exhibition.
  • Try and think about the dissertation. I need to stop jumping into designs and focus on what I am researching.
  • I will need to meet with my supervisor about the feedback I received
